Speaking it in the family

Familects – home dialects in which words are given private meanings – reveal that everyone has a creative and playful linguistic story

  1. I agree with this post from the guardian. I agree that you change around family members, maybe the way you pronounce words and what types of words that you use. I believe you wouldn't talk to your family members like you would talk to your friends, you wouldn't use taboo language with family members like you would with friendship groups.

  2. I agree with this because speaking in the family can change due to how someone feels what is appropriate and acceptable towards different family members. For example the language used around older family members will be much different towards the younger teenagers of similar ages.

  3. I find this article very interesting and also very accurate. I agree that the type of language used amongst family embers will be different from with other social groups e.g. your friends. For example you are likely to use less taboo words when in your families company as you have been taught not to use that dialect by your parents from a young age, whereas amongst your peers it is more acceptable and seems to be the norm. As well as this I think its fascinating how different family's develop and use different familects that only they are likely to understand. Almost like there own made up language that only exists inside there home. Alfie Sweeney
